The intinerary
Day 1 - Alis & Uchco Canyon
We leave Lima due south and make our way to the beautiful valley of Lunahuana. Here the sun kissed valley floor thrives in agriculture and tourism activities alike. Flanked by the imposing slopes of the Andes we follow the Cañete river upstream. A total of 8 hours after leaving Lima will see us arrive at our hotel at around 3pm.
In the afternoon we visit the Uchco Canyon and the Angel Waterfall, adding adventure to an otherwise gentle first day. On the way back to the hotel we stop to wonder around the Town of Alis, one of the pretties of the reserve.
Day 2 - Huancaya & Vilca
Following a meandering gravel road up the valley of Huancaya, our fist stop is the Piquecocha lake where we begin to appreciate the magnificent beauty of the Nor-Yauyos Cocha National Reserve. Our drive will take us through the small villages of Vitis and Huancaya before entering the most scenic segment of our journey; the Huancaya - Vilca drive. After multiple scenic stops and an option to dip your head into the freezing waters of the river we make it to the town of Vilca for a picnic lunch. On the way back we stop in the town of Huancaya where we will go for a short trek by the river. We make it back to the hotel before its dark to enjoy the evening by a roaring fire.
Day 3 - Laraos & Lunahuana
In the morning we drive up to the small town of Laraos. Here you will appreciate the most spectacular pre-hispanic andenes in the area. These oversized man made "stairs" were build by the Incas to use the steep valley walls for agriculture. The engineering genius of the Incas becomes apparent in a heartbeat.
In the late afternoon we begin our descent to the Lima. Stopping in Lunahuana for lunch you can indulge in the rich local gastronomic offerings. The valley is famous for their fresh water shrimp (camarón).
After lunch we head back to the city of Lima making it back at around 9pm in the evening.
* There is an optional water rafting option after lunch in the town of Lunahuana.
Optional Tour Extensions
Optional Trekking Extension (+U$400pp) Carania & Huamanmarca
We start the day early and head to Carania. In this small hidden village in an adjacent valley awaits the starting point of an epic 4-5hr roundtrip trek to the ruins of Huamanmarca. In it you will appreciate jaw-dropping views of the valley and Llongote snow peak, and learn about this spectacular ancient Inca citadel. We head back to the hotel once our trek is over for a well deserved rest.
Optional Trout Fishing Expedition (+$400.00pp)
We rise early in the morning to venture deeper into the Andes in search for the perfect spot for trout fishing. At over 3800m trouts swim freely in the freezing lakes of the upper mountains. The prefect spot will be chosen by our guide depending on weather conditions and accessibility Fishing equipment is provided and we will spend the morning by the lake.
We will enjoy a picnic by the lake for lunch and head back to the hotel for a nice afternoon rest in the hotel.
